So you’d like to get married at St Luke’s!
St Luke’s is a beautiful and historic church that has seen many weddings over its 160 years of history. As an Anglican church, there are a few requirements that must be adhered to in regards to marriages.
- All weddings at St. Luke’s must be conducted by an Anglican minister according to the rites of the Anglican Church of Australia
- We assume that any couples looking to be married from St Luke’s are seeking a Christian wedding
- It is required that at least one of the couple getting married has been baptised or confirmed into the Anglican Church. If you would like to get baptised or confirmed, we are very happy to talk about that with you!
Before the wedding
Please contact the church office to discuss the availability of the church for your wedding. Once the date has been set, a deposit is required to secure and confirm the date.
Once the wedding has been confirmed, one of the ministers from St. Luke’s will need to meet with you. Together you will discuss your wedding, and organise the required legal paperwork, known as a NOIM.
Marriage Preparation: St Luke’s is not only interested in your wedding, but also your marriage. As such, St Luke’s strongly encourages all couples being married at the church to undertake a recognised course of marriage preparation such as the relationship program offered by Lifeworks. This will also be discussed with the minister.

- Anyone else who will be walking in the bridal procession
- Those doing readings
- Those doing prayers
- Those signing the certificates as witnesses (usually best man and maid of honour)
- Sound system and projector operators, with music ready to go
- Musicians
The wedding ceremony
A typical outline of the service is:
Music will be played at certain points during the service, including the bridal procession, the signing of the marriage certificate, and the recessional. In consultation with your minister, this can be music that is special to you, or traditional wedding hymns and marches can be used.
The most important part of the wedding is the vows which you will be making to each other in the presence of God. We encourage you to read these and get to know them as you prepare for your wedding. The vows used at St Luke’s can be found here.
Readings from the Bible are included in every wedding. Some popular readings can be found here.
